About us

« Exploration is in our nature. We began as wanderers, and we are wanderers still. We have lingered long enough on the shores of the cosmic ocean. We are ready at last to set sail for the stars. »

― Carl Sagan, astronomer (1934-1996)

This society was founded in December 2015 and serves the purpose to meet regularly to have a beer and exchange thoughts about our common fascination for astronomy. The society is based in Ettingen, Switzerland and most members live in the surroundings of Basel. The membership is open to anyone who has reached the age of 18 and is interested in participating lively in our society activities. Further information can be found in our statutes / articles of association (in German).

The members meet regularly away from the lights of civilisation, to observe the night sky and to discuss astronomical matters. Our focus is laid equally on the past, the presence, and the future. Old methods and aspects of astronomy, as well as new discoveries and insights are included in our dialogues, such as space missions, experiments, and events. Also, future endeavours of mankind aiming to increase the knowledge about the universe, are discussed over food and drinks.

More insights about our society can also be found in this newspaper article (in German), published by the local newspaper "BiBo" (Birsigtal Bote) on November 30th, 2017.
